Switched my brush technique after a guy in Charlotte set me straight

Old timer named Ray at a trade show in Charlotte told me I was pushing my soot brush too fast and missing half the buildup. I tried his slower, steady pull method on a creosote-heavy job last Wednesday and pulled out twice as much gunk as before. Anyone else get a simple tip that totally changed how they work?

Was it just the speed change or did he also have you adjust the angle or pressure on the brush head?

Interesting question. Did he suggest a particular grip or wrist motion, or was it all about the machine settings?

Honestly, you're talking about a brush technique like it's brain surgery or something. It's just scraping soot, not landing a rocket on the moon. I'm glad it worked better for you but it's not exactly changing the world here. Maybe slow down is just good advice for most things in life, not just chimney cleaning. People get way too wrapped up in the perfect wrist angle or pressure, just pull the brush and be done with it.
