Shelled out $300 for a digital drafting tool and my layout pencil is still faster

Last spring I bought one of those fancy laser measuring and leveling gadgets, figured it'd speed up my flue liner installs in Portland. Big mistake... it kept throwing false readings on reflective tile and the battery died by noon on the second job. I'm back to my old tape measure and a plumb bob, which cost me maybe $20 total. Anyone else sink cash into new tech that just gathers dust in the truck?

Wait, the battery died by noon on the SECOND job? That thing must have been sipping power like crazy, lol.

Portland's got some weird light conditions with all that fog and rain, so reflective tile might not have been the gadget's fault. Still, a plumb bob never needs a battery or a firmware update. Maybe it's just about knowing which tool fits the job, not which one costs more.
