My grandpa told me to always check the damper from the top down, not the bottom up. He was right, lol.

Remember thinking that way after my first kitchen fire. Honestly, the mess-ups taught me more than any warning ever could. Sometimes you need to see the smoke yourself to really get it. A lesson that sticks is usually one you learn the hard way.

What finally got you to check the stove before leaving? I started putting my keys next to the burner as a reminder.
