Finally got a coating to stick on a secondhand liner in Portland
Three years of chasing creosote glaze on that old stainless liner, turns out the guy before me had never scuffed the surface and my 40-degree washdown was leaving a film, so I sanded it with 80 grit and one coat of the ceramic sealer held after 2 test burns, has anyone else run into prep issues on used liners or is it just me?
Prep issues on used liners are way more common than people admit. Ran into the same thing on a stove pipe I picked up cheap, and scuffing it with 60 grit plus a good wipe down with denatured alcohol made the difference between the coating flaking off and actually bonding. Two test burns holding is a solid sign you got it right.
