Everyone says stainless steel brushes are the only way to go, but I found out different
I jumped on that bandwagon last fall and bought a nice stainless steel brush for my regular cleanings. Thought it would be the best thing since sliced bread. But after about 20 jobs, I noticed it was gouging the heck out of some older clay liners I work with. Switched back to a quality poly brush on a hunch and the scratching stopped completely. Now I only use the stainless on newer metal flues where it actually works fine. Any other sweep out there seeing damage on old clay from the steel bristles?

Thought it would be the best thing since sliced bread" - my buddy Dave said the exact same thing. He went through three nylon brushes before caving and buying a nice stainless one. First time on an older clay flue and it left scratches like a cat went at it. He was so mad he threw it in the trash lol.

Four months with a steel brush on my clay flue and not a single scratch... maybe it depends on how old the clay is or something. I hear you though @xena1, Dave's story is rough. I guess I got lucky with mine.
