Can we talk about how everyone says you need a $700 rotary tool, but my $28 hand whip does better work?
Everyone in this trade acts like you have to buy the fancy rotary setup to do real chimney work. I dropped $700 on a rotary whip two years ago, and it has been nothing but trouble. The head keeps binding up on older flue tiles, and I have replaced the cable twice at $85 each. Meanwhile, my $28 hand whip from a supply house in Tulsa has cleaned hundreds of flues with zero issues. It takes a little more elbow grease, sure, but I finish the same job in about the same time. The rotary does well on big commercial stacks, I will give it that. But for the everyday residential work most of us do, I think people are just buying expensive gear to look serious. What is your honest take, is the rotary actually worth it for you or is it just what everyone says you should own?
