That fancy French bistro in Portland has the wrong idea about steaks

I dropped into Le Petit Four last month with some chef friends who swore by it. They rave about the dry-aged ribeye but I thought it was way too salty and the crust was almost burnt. Everyone else at the table told me I was wrong and that's just how a proper steak au poivre should be. Has anyone else found that place to be overrated or am I the one missing something?

Oh boy, can I relate. I once tried to impress a date by cooking a "perfect" steak au poivre and ended up setting off the smoke detector so bad the neighbors thought there was a real fire. Maybe my taste buds are just broken, but I've found that place's steaks to be more about looking fancy than actually tasting good. The salt level is frankly ridiculous, like they're trying to make up for something else in the kitchen.

Oh man, I've seen that place's kitchen through the window once and the salt shaker must be on steroids. 12 bucks for a steak that tastes like a salt lick? No thanks. I'd rather burn my own food and have a story to tell than pay for that. Plus, if you set off your own smoke detector at least you get to laugh about it later with your date. That place just leaves you with a dry mouth and a lighter wallet.

Honestly I just gave up trying to cook fancy for dates and order pizza now, way less stress.
