Tbh, I just ate at that new 'farm-to-table' spot on 5th and the 'chef's special' was a $28 plate of under-seasoned, barely-seared scallops on a smear of cold pea puree.

Honestly, it felt like they were just trying to look fancy without putting in the actual work, and has anyone else noticed places charging premium prices for what's basically lazy plating?

Right? @kelly_west74's cold fries sound about right for these places.

Saw an article calling it "plate privilege." They charge more because the plate looks empty. Makes the portion seem bigger or something. It's a total scam for sure. Paying for looks over actual food. That deconstructed burger story is the perfect example. Style over substance every time.

Ugh, that's the worst. It's like they think putting three tiny things on a huge white plate is a personality. I got a "deconstructed" burger once that was just the parts laid out separately, and the fries were cold. Total rip-off.
