Dropped $250 on a Japanese mandoline and it almost took my finger off
I wanted to get faster at slicing veg for prep so I bought one of those nice Benriner mandolines. First day using it I got careless and shaved off a good chunk of my knuckle trying to do a quick batch of cucumbers for pickles. Now I'm out $250 and stuck with a gnarly bandage that keeps sliding around when I wash dishes. Anybody else have a tool that just straight up punished them for trying to save time?

Did you at least save the cucumbers? I still have a scar from my mandoline mishap.

Wait, you actually have a scar from a mandoline? That's wild. @morgan.logan I respect the dedication but also I'm genuinely freaked out right now. Did you at least save the cucumbers though? Those things are way too expensive to let them go to waste after a battle like that. I'd frame the scar and the cucumber slice together honestly.

Benriner mandolines are like $40 at most kitchen supply places... I mean the nice Japanese ones are amazing but you definitely overpaid unless you got that commercial grade one with the extra blades. I have a scar on my left thumb from one too, right below the knuckle. The guard is worthless for small stuff like cucumbers so I just use a fork now, poking it into the veg to hold it. Still worth it for real though, once you learn to respect the blade they're honestly faster than anything else for prepping big batches.
