A dishwasher at my last gig in Austin told me he salts his cutting board to keep it from sliding, and it's the best free hack I've picked up in months.
He sprinkles a tiny pinch of coarse salt under a damp paper towel on the counter, sets the board on top, and it stays completely put without any fancy mats or wet rags that can get gross.

Ever try that with a damp cloth instead of a paper towel? Might last longer. Works on my granite counter too.

That's a solid point about reusable cloths. I've noticed we default to disposable stuff even when a simple swap works better. It's one of those small habits that adds up over time.

Oh man, that salt trick is brilliant. I've been using a damp cloth under my board for years, but it does get kind of funky if you forget about it. The salt sounds way cleaner. I'm trying this tonight when I chop onions, because my board always slides when I'm really going at it.
