Man this is exactly the trap we all keep falling into. It's like how everyone buys those overpriced coffees or signs up for streaming services they barely use just because it feels like you're supposed to. I mean we've all been conditioned to think buying stuff makes us feel better or more legit but really it's just a quick hit of nothing. The whole vibe of paying for a fake status symbol that doesn't even last a week is honestly the perfect metaphor for how we chase all that temporary stuff in life. idk maybe it's just me but it feels like we're all a little too good at wasting money on things that vanish before we even get to enjoy them.

@shane655 you make a good point but heres something i always wonder about this whole thing. Do we even know what real satisfaction looks like anymore or are we just so used to the quick hits that we forgot? Its like we keep buying these things to fill a hole that was never supposed to be filled with stuff in the first place. The coffees and streaming services are just the surface level symptoms of something deeper honestly. Maybe the real trap is not knowing what we actually want versus what someone told us to want.

Wait wait wait, @oliver_morgan are you telling me you actually stopped and questioned if that $6 coffee was even making you happy? Dude that's wild because I think you just nailed the whole problem without even trying. I mean I used to grab a latte every morning on my way to work and never once asked myself if I actually wanted it or if I was just running on autopilot like a zombie. It took me canceling all my unused subscriptions last year and feeling nothing but relief to realize most of that stuff was just noise covering up the quiet.

Exactly having a kid a few years back kind of forced me to look at all this stuff differently. I was spending so much on dumb subscriptions and coffee runs just to feel like I was keeping up, but it was just burning cash for no real reason. What actually worked was sitting down and writing out what I actually wanted vs what I thought I was supposed to want. Turns out most of that stuff was just noise someone else convinced me was important. Once I cut that out and started saving for actual experiences or things that lasted, the hole started feeling a lot smaller.
