Unpopular opinion: That viral apology video from the fast food CEO actually backfired

My buddy swears the crying CEO bit made people forgive the brand, but I think it just made everyone mock them harder. Which apology style actually wins people over - the humble pie or the stone cold corporate statement?

honestly the crying thing backfired so hard because it felt fake. i remember when my ISP totally screwed up my connection for a week and their CEO did this whole "we're sorry you're frustrated" speech with zero emotion. it was cold but i respected it more than tears. the key is to say what you did wrong and how you'll fix it without making it about yourself. that fast food dude made it about his "brand journey" instead of the gross food. if you just state the facts and don't try to guilt trip people, that's the way to go.

Ha, is it really that deep though? CEO's crying is cringe but who actually expects real emotion from a corporate apology anyway. It's just PR theatre either way, tears or no tears.
