That time Katy Perry tried to explain NFTs on Instagram went exactly how you'd expect
I was scrolling last week and saw her video where she compared NFTs to digital Beanie Babies while holding up a cartoon cat. She kept saying 'you can trade them like Pokémon cards' but clearly had no clue how blockchain works. Fans in the comments were roasting her for 3 hours straight about the bad analogy. Has anyone else seen a celeb totally miss the mark trying to sound tech savvy?

That Beanie Babies comparison was pretty rough. The thing is, Beanie Babies were physical objects you could actually hold, while NFTs are just links on a blockchain, so the analogy falls apart pretty quick. Did you see anyone actually manage to explain the difference to her?

Honestly, its a solid point. Beanie Babies at least had a physical thing you could lose under your couch, while an NFT is basically just a receipt for something you can right-click save.

Oh man, that whole thing was a mess. I mean, I actually saw a clip where she tried to hand a physical NFT card to a fan and they just stood there confused. It reminded me of this time my aunt tried to explain cryptocurrency to my grandma at Thanksgiving, and she kept calling it "computer money beans." @lisaf38, you're totally right that the physical vs digital layer broke her whole comparison. At least with Beanie Babies you could squish them, I guess?
