That time a celeb's empty Instagram apology made me block them
I used to think any public apology was better than silence. Then last month, a singer I followed posted a 2 line apology for a racist joke from 2016, all caps, no details, and then pinned a comment calling critics snowflakes. I did a deep scroll and saw she pulled the same move twice before, so I finally hit block. Has anyone else lost all respect after seeing a pattern like that?
Watched the same thing happen with a YouTuber I liked for years. He made a gross "joke" about homeless people, got called out, then posted a notes app screenshot that said "I'm sorry if you were hurt" and nothing else. Two weeks later he was back to joking about it in a vlog like nothing happened. That "if" in the apology told me everything. It's not sorry, it's sorry you got caught. Blocking felt weird at first but man, it was freeing.
