PSA: double-check the date before you post a throwback, learned that one in Phoenix

On Tuesday I shared what I thought was a funny throwback pic of a celeb eating a hot dog at a game, but it was actually from last week, not 2018. The account was brand new so people assumed I was leaking current stuff, and one fan actually called the celeb's team about it. Took me 4 hours to clear up the confusion and the celeb's PR person sent me a weirdly polite but firm DM about privacy. I guess my lesson is to always check the EXIF data or reverse search before you post anything nostalgic. Has anyone else had a throwback get misread as current news like this? What did you do to fix it?

Did you flip the timezone setting on your phone after that trip? I had a similar mess when I posted a “flashback Friday” of a festival that was actually from the same weekend, and the band’s manager reached out thinking I was spoiling their tour. I ended up adding a quick note to the caption and reposting the pic with the old date circled in a screenshot, which cleared things up faster than I expected.
