Paid $300 for a cameo from a B-list actor and got crickets instead

I thought I was being clever booking a surprise cameo for my buddy's birthday from that guy who played the sidekick in that one superhero movie. Dropped $300 and the video was him reading the script like he was bored at a DMV, zero energy. Then he posted the exact same clip on his Instagram the next day like it was original content. Has anyone else thrown cash at a celebrity shoutout and ended up feeling like you got robbed?

Man, $300 for a bored DMV reading and then he recycles it? That's rough. But honestly, I kinda wonder if people expect too much from these cameos. It's five minutes of some actor's day, not a Broadway show. Maybe the hype around them is just bigger than the reality. Still, posting the same clip the next day is just lazy, that part I get being annoyed about.

Gotta admit, I've been tempted to drop money on a cameo for a buddy's birthday before. Last time I almost got one from a guy who played a minor villain on a show I liked, but then I saw his sample video and it was him filming from his car in a parking lot looking super annoyed. So I spent the $30 on a nice card and a bottle of whiskey instead, which felt like a way safer bet. At least the whiskey didn't stare blankly at a camera while reading a script offscreen, you know?
