Saw a friend post a 'candid' photo that was clearly staged 20 times

My buddy from high school posted this pic yesterday saying 'just a random shot of me at the park thinking about life.' But I watched him take it. He set his phone on a bench, ran back 15 feet, adjusted his jacket three times, then pretended to look at a tree for like 5 minutes while it snapped. The before was him actually vibing with his dog, the after was this forced 'deep thinker' look. Has anyone else caught someone doing the fake candid thing and felt secondhand embarrassment?

The 'thinking about life' part got me because I literally watched a girl at a coffee shop last week set up her phone, run to her seat, then stare intensely out the window for a solid minute. She posted it later with the caption 'lost in my thoughts' and I almost choked on my drink. It's like they think we're all buying this fake 'oh I'm just naturally deep and mysterious' act but really it's just them standing awkwardly in one spot for too long while people watch. The secondhand embarrassment is real because you can always tell when someone has rehearsed that 'candid' look. I swear social media has created a whole new category of performance art and nobody is clapping.

You ever try the 'set a 3 second timer on your phone' trick? I did that with a friend who kept reshooting her 'candid' lunch pic. Handed her my phone on a napkin, counted down, and snapped her mid-chew with sauce on her chin. She posted it anyway with 'messy life' and honestly it worked better than the tree stare. Most people can't pull off the deep thinker without looking like they're smelling a fart. Just set the shot and move on.
