Rant: Got called out at a family dinner for saying I finished a job when I clearly hadn't

My cousin pulled up a photo from my own Facebook page showing trim work I’d posted three weeks ago and pointed out the gaps I missed. Has anyone else had a relative screenshot their own social media to prove you wrong?

Isn't it better to get called out in private than have a customer see the same gaps later? Your cousin basically gave you a free quality check with that screenshot.

Build a process around it. Tell friends and family they can send feedback directly to you in private, but ask them not to post it publicly until you've had a chance to fix it first. That way you get the heads up AND control the timing. I've learned the hard way that even well meaning call outs can turn into a headache if customers see it before you do.

Honestly, I think getting called out privately is way better. That screenshot your cousin sent gave you a chance to fix it before anyone else saw. If a customer had found that same gap, you'd be dealing with a bad review or a refund request. Private feedback means you get to improve without the public embarrassment. It's basically a free pass to fix your mistakes quietly.
