Focus on the lighting instead of the food itself. Nobody talks about how a filter just adjusts the mood of the photo, not the actual meal. If you start with good lighting natural daylight or a warm lamp you barely need any filter at all. People get so hung up on the food looking perfect they forget the background and shadows matter too. Try shooting near a window next time instead of relying on software to fix everything. That way your pics look real and you won't get roasted for editing.
