Just realized my coffee grinder was lying to me for 6 months
I got this nice burr grinder last Christmas and thought I was finally making decent espresso at home. But my shots kept pulling way too fast no matter what I did. I adjusted the grind size finer and finer but nothing changed. Turns out the adjustment ring inside was stripped from day one, so it was just pretending to grind finer while staying at the same setting the whole time. I only figured it out because I opened it up to clean it and saw the plastic teeth were all worn down. Now I gotta spend another $40 on a replacement part and my morning routine is ruined until it gets here. Has anyone else had a fancy kitchen gadget break in a sneaky way like this?

honestly if you didn't notice for 6 months maybe the grinder was fine and your espresso skills just needed work. $40 for a part is a steal, could be worse.

Are we really going to blame the person for not noticing instead of the gear wearing down? I get that six months is a long time, but sometimes you just trust your setup and don't think to check every little thing. A grinder can slowly get worse over months and you might not catch it until it gets real bad. I think it's pretty normal for people to adjust their technique to match what their machine is giving them. $40 is cheap for a part, but that doesn't mean it's okay to shame someone for not catching it sooner. We all learn stuff the hard way sometimes, and that's just part of the hobby.
