Hotel reviews are pure fiction after my Florida trip disaster
I always trusted Google reviews for hotels, thinking people were mostly honest about their stays. Then I booked a place in Tampa that had a solid 4.7 stars and 500 reviews. Got there and the "renovated bathroom" was a cracked shower with mold in the grout, the "gourmet breakfast" was stale bagels from the night before, and the "ocean view" was a glimpse of water between two dumpsters. I compared it to a random 3.5 star place my friend booked across the street, and her room was actually clean with real eggs at breakfast. Now I only look at the 3 star reviews on hotels because those seem to be the real talkers who actually describe what went wrong instead of shilling for a free upgrade.

Used to think the high star ratings were the safe bet too. But after getting burned a couple times, those 3 star reviews are where the real truth usually lives.
