Can we talk about my coworker who said she was sick but posted a beach photo at 2pm
Last Wednesday my coworker Dana called out sick, then posted an Instagram story from a Jersey Shore beach at 2:47pm with her toes in the sand. Our manager saw it before Dana deleted it, and now there's a meeting on Friday about the "team's sick day policy." Do you think she actually gets in trouble or does this blow over by Monday?
Is it bad that I kind of get why Dana did it? Like yeah it looks shady to post a beach pic the same day you called out, but in my experience most people who call out aren't really "sick" sick, they just need a mental health day and don't want to burn PTO. The real problem here isn't Dana, it's that the company probably makes people lie instead of just giving them flex days. That said, posting it publicly was a rookie move and your manager seeing it makes this way bigger than it needs to be. Your mileage may vary but I'd guess she gets a slap on the wrist and a stern talk, and by Monday everyone's back to pretending it never happened.
