Update: I stopped using kicker on every seam after one blew out a Berber in Rogers Park
Last Thursday I was finishing a 40 yard Berber in Rogers Park and the seam I kicked opened up like a zipper two hours after I left. I went back and pulled the whole thing loose and found the kicker had stretched the backing right where the two pieces met, so I re-did it with a seam iron and glue and it laid flat. The homeowner was cool about it but I ate 3 hours of my own time. I've kicked every seam for 8 years and never had this happen, so now I'm wondering if I was just lucky all that time. Has anyone else switched to ironing Berber seams full time, or do you still kick and just watch the stretch?
