Tried a hot melt seaming iron for the first time yesterday on a job in Toledo.

I usually stick with the standard power stretcher and knee kicker method but figured I'd give the hot melt a shot after watching a few videos. The seaming was way cleaner on the seams, no glue bleed through at all on that berber carpet. Has anyone else had trouble getting the temperature dial right or did I just get lucky with my first try?

Man my first hot melt try looked like I was trying to melt a glacier with a lighter.

Take it easy on yourself, that first attempt is always rough. The trick is to get the wax hot enough but not so hot it burns, and you gotta work fast before it starts setting up. A cheap heat gun from Harbor Freight made a world of difference for me over using a lighter. You'll get better results once you dial in that temperature.
