TIL my wife's grandpa was a carpet layer for 40 years... and he never used a knee kicker

We were at a family thing last weekend and he saw me rubbing my knees. He just said, 'Kid, I used a power stretcher for every single job after 1978... my knees are the only part of me that doesn't ache.' I always thought you needed the kicker for most rooms, but he said for anything over 10 feet, the power stretcher is the only way to get it truly tight. He swore it added 5 years to his career. Has anyone else made the switch to mostly power stretching and noticed a real difference?

Is it really that bad? Lilykelly says her knees are toast but maybe some people are just more careful.

That's a smart man right there. My knees are toast from all the kicking.

Come on, toast? I've seen people say that after like, one weekend of painting a fence. Unless you're a pro soccer player or something, how much kicking are we really talking about here? My uncle "threw his back out" once and it was from sneezing too hard.
