Spent 4 hours fighting a seam that just wouldn't lay flat

Last Tuesday I was doing a bedroom in a house from the 80s and one seam right near the door kept curling up no matter what I did. Tried double-sided tape, more adhesive, even a heavier seam roller and nothing worked until I realized the subfloor had a slight hump I missed. Anybody else run into a hidden floor issue that turned a quick job into an all-day thing?

Told my helper to grab the wrong size trowel once. Wasted an hour before I noticed. Felt like a total idiot.

Did your knee give out kneeling on that hump all day? I had a buddy who spent like six hours on a kitchen floor and he was ready to throw his tools out the window. He kept getting this one tile that wouldn't sit right and it turned out there was a nail head poking up just enough from the subfloor below. He finally noticed it when he ran his hand over the underlayment and felt this tiny bump. He said he felt so dumb but also relieved it wasn't his technique that was the problem.

Did you check if the hump was actually from the subfloor or from a previous glue layer underneath that wasn't cleaned off right? That's gotten me before (took an embarrassing amount of scraping to fix).
