Rented a power stretcher instead of buying one - big mistake

I saved $40 by renting a power stretcher from a tool shop on the south side, but the pins kept slipping on me. Took three times longer to tension a 15x20 room than it should have. Has anyone else had rental equipment fail mid-job like this?

That rental place on the south side has a bad rep for not servicing their gear. I'd check the head bolts and pin condition before you even leave the shop next time.

Bro c'mon now. You're blaming the tool when it's probably operator error. That power stretcher was probably fine, you just didn't set the pins right or adjust the tension correctly. I've used rented ones a dozen times and never had issues like that. Most guys mess up because they don't check the rubber pads are clean or they set the stretch too aggressive. Next time take 5 minutes to read the manual or watch a quick video before you start cranking.

Nah @henderson.wesley I'm gonna push back on that one. I've been doing carpet for years and I know how to set a stretcher. The pins on that rental were worn down and the whole head was loose. You can't just blame the guy when some rental places let their gear get trashed. I got no problem admitting when I mess up but that wasn't it. Rental shops need to maintain their stuff better or people end up fighting the tool all day.
