Pro tip: Do not trust the 'square footage' on the carpet roll label without checking

I just finished a job in a small apartment where the roll said 150 square yards. I cut and laid everything, then had a huge piece left over. I measured it myself and the roll was actually 180 yards. That's 30 extra yards I paid for and will never use. The supplier said it was a 'packing error' but won't take it back because it's cut. I lost about $450 on that one mistake. Always measure the roll yourself before you start cutting, even if the tag looks right. Has anyone else been burned by wrong labels like this?

Thirty extra yards is a crazy amount to be off by. That's not a packing error, that's a whole extra roll.

Ever notice how this happens with everything now? I bought a bag of soil last week that said 40 quarts but felt way too light. It was barely half full when I checked. Feels like you can't trust any labels anymore.

Honestly, I probably bought the same bag and thought I was just bad at estimating.
