Overheard a homeowner in Springfield say 'carpet is carpet' when picking a pad

I was at the supply house yesterday and a guy was telling his buddy to just get the cheapest pad because 'carpet is carpet'. My last job used a 7/16-inch premium pad and it felt totally different underfoot. Do you guys ever explain pad quality to customers before they decide?

My old apartment's cheap pad wore out in two years, but my mom's good one lasted ten.

Oh for real? I saw this whole video breaking down the materials... they're definitely not the same.
