Nobody seems to know how to stretch seams anymore

I was helping a buddy on a job in Portland last week and watched this younger crew try to seam a 12 foot wide Berber. They didn't even use a knee kicker, just power stretcher from one wall and prayed. You gotta work that seam from both sides with a stair tool or it's gonna sep within 6 months. Any of you old timers seen this getting worse?

My buddy Mike runs a flooring crew in Seattle and he called me last month fuming about this exact thing. They had a 10 foot seam in a nylon cut pile and his new guy just ran the power stretcher once and called it good. Mike walked over, put a knee kicker on one side and worked it back and forth with a stair tool for 20 minutes. The gap was almost half an inch before he started. That seam is gonna hold for years now but the kid didnt even know what a stair tool was for.
