I finally listened to that old timer about not using a power stretcher for stairs

A guy with 30 years in the trade told me hand knee-kicker method works better on curved stairs, and I thought he was crazy until I tried it on a tricky set in Denver last month. Has anyone else found certain jobs where the old way actually beats power tools?

Oh yeah, that old timer knew what he was talking about." Power stretchers on curved stairs is like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture. I had a set of winding stairs in a 1920s house last year and my kicker was the ONLY thing that worked. The power stretcher just kept popping off the curves and I almost threw it out the window. Sometimes the "old way" is actually just the smart way.

Dude YES! I had ALMOST the exact same thing happen to me on a Victorian house in Buffalo. That power stretcher was just sliding and slipping off every single curved step, I was about ready to chuck it into the street. Switched to the knee kicker out of pure frustration and it was like night and day. That old guy was absolutely right. Sometimes you gotta trust the guy who's been doing this since before power tools were even a thing. I swear people forget that tools are just helpers, not some magic fix for every situation.

Did I miss the memo where being old means having infinite wisdom or am I just bad at both methods?
