Finally nailed the seam placement on a tricky linen weave
Been doing carpet for 6 years now and I kept seeing guys seam this certain 12 foot linen pattern across the middle of the hallway in these older homes near Portland. Every time it would ripple after 3 months because the backing had zero stretch tolerance. Last Thursday I walked a job in Beaverton where the previous guy did exactly that, so I flipped the seam to run with the light from the window instead. Customer called yesterday saying it lays flat even after their dog ran through. Any other installers out there run into this with low stretch backings, or is it just the linen weaves from that one mill in Ohio?

@riveradams I get why your buddy glued it down, that mill makes some stiff stuff for sure. But I found flipping the seam so it runs with the window light changes the whole game, the backing barely moves when it's not fighting the sun. If you glue the edges you're just trapping the ripple in, it'll pop somewhere else in six months. I've had two jobs hold flat this way now, even on that 12 foot roll. The key is you gotta let the carpet relax overnight before you stretch it, that Ohio weave takes forever to settle.

Yeah my buddy hit the same wall with that Ohio linen. He gave up and glued the edges down.
