Finally got my seams to disappear after switching to a seam roller from Harbor Freight
For the longest time, my seams were always just a little visible, especially on berbers. A guy I worked with in Phoenix said it was my technique, but I was sure it was the carpet. Tried a different seam roller I picked up on a whim for like $15, and after a month of using it on every job, the difference is night and day. No more catching a nail or leaving a ridge. What's your go-to trick for a perfect seam?

You're right about prep being key, but doesn't the roller's weight and edge make a difference on how the glue sets? A cheap one might not press the fibers into the adhesive the same way.

Terry's point about a roller hiding a gap is a good one. I always check my seam with a bright work light from a low angle before I even get the glue out. If you see a shadow line, the cut isn't right, and no roller will fix that. It shows every little bump or gap the overhead light misses.

Gotta be honest, that's wild to me. The tool helps for sure, but a perfect seam is like 90% prep and glue. If the carpet edges aren't cut clean and butted tight before you even touch the roller, you're just making a shiny bad seam. Seen it happen where a roller just hides a gap that'll pop open in a year.
