Can we talk about stretched carpet near sliding doors

I keep seeing new guys glue down the edges at sliding glass doors and call it done. That's fine for a week, but by month two the sun heats that glass track and the carpet ripples like a potato chip. I've fixed three of those in Portland this summer alone, and every homeowner said the original installer just tacked it tight. Should we be pinning the pad back further or using a metal transition strip instead of glue? What's your go-to for that spot, because mine clearly isn't working either.

Got any tricks for keeping the track area from turning into a heat trap? My buddy ripped out a whole living room install last month because the previous guy did the same glue trick, and the ripples were so bad you could trip on them. Now he sets the pad back a good two inches from the glass and uses a metal strip, and it's held flat through a hundred-degree stretch.
