Wrote off those cheap drill bits for years, finally gave them a shot last month

I grabbed a 20 pack of those no-name bits for $8 at a hardware store in Pittsburgh just to have spares and they've actually held up through 3 cabinet jobs without dulling. Has anyone else had good luck with budget bits or did I just get lucky?

Had a buddy snap four cheap bits drilling into one stud last week.

Those cheap bits are usually fine for wood but the real test is hitting something hard like a knot or a nail. Chen's buddy probably torqued them wrong or didn't have the right speed set.
