Vent: dropped $340 on a tracksaw and I still reach for my circular saw half the time
Bought a Makita tracksaw setup about 4 months ago after watching every video on the internet tell me it would change how I break down sheet goods. In theory it's cleaner and straighter, and yeah the cuts are dead on, but setting up the track, clamping it, and lining up the splinter guard adds like 15 minutes to every sheet. For a single cabinet job in a garage in Portland I can have my old circular saw and a straightedge done in half the time. I'm not saying it's junk, I'm saying the guys who claim you'll never touch a circular saw again are wrong. Anybody here actually use theirs more than once a month, or did I just drink the kool-aid?
Man, fifteen minutes is a longer setup than it should be, and that part is worth fixing. If you set the track so the splinter guard gets trimmed on the first cut and then leave it alone, and skip the clamps on anything with grip tape, the whole thing drops to a minute or two. The saw is not slower than your circular saw, your routine around it is.
