Spent $240 on a chainsaw mill last spring, saved me about $900 in lumber
I milled 6 black walnut logs from a buddy's backyard in Ohio into slabs instead of buying kiln dried stock at $12 a board foot. Took forever and ate two chains, but I still came out way ahead. Anyone else milling their own or is it just me being cheap?
Tbh @the_laura has a point, but you can call local tree services and ask them to drop off logs instead of paying dump fees. Heard a few guys on a woodworking forum say they get walnut and oak for free that way.
