Question about using a 12-inch miter saw blade for ripping a 2x8

I needed a quick rip cut on site and tried it, but the blade wandered and burned the wood. Anyone have a better method when a table saw isn't an option?

My buddy tried that exact thing last summer on a deck job. He ended up with a gnarly burn line and the board pinching the blade halfway through. Maybe it's just me but a circular saw with a straight edge guide is way safer for rips on site, even if it feels like an extra step.

My last rip cut looked like a lightning bolt, so I'm with @jana119 on this one.

That pinch is no joke, it'll kick back hard enough to ruin your whole day. I've seen guys skip the guide for speed and end up with a board that's basically firewood. The extra minute to clamp a straight edge is cheaper than a trip to urgent care.
