PSA: I lost a full day's pay trying to save $20 on a blade
I was cutting some oak for a built-in and my good blade was getting dull. Instead of buying a new one, I tried to sharpen it myself with a cheap kit from the hardware store. I spent three hours on it, got it back on the saw, and it was worse than before. It burned the wood and left a rough edge on every cut. I had to stop the job, drive back to the store, and buy the proper blade anyway. That mistake cost me about $200 in lost time, plus the $15 I wasted on the sharpening kit. I should have just replaced it from the start. Has anyone else had a sharpening attempt go this badly?

Been there, done that lol. Sharpening saw blades is a whole different skill set that takes real practice. Those cheap kits are basically a trap for anyone who isn't already good at it. You're totally right that time is money, and sometimes the new blade is just the cost of doing the job right.
