Tracking stuff is the only way to really see where your time and materials actually go. People always think they know their numbers cold until they write it all down and realize they're bleeding waste somewhere they never noticed. It's the same with grocery shopping or gas money, once you start logging it, the hidden leaks become obvious. You'll probably end up cutting smarter after the first week just from catching yourself second-guessing a cut before you make it. It's wild how just paying attention changes your behavior without you even trying.

Start tracking your sawdust, not just your board feet. The real waste isn't the wood you cut wrong, it's the sawdust you create from making every cut just a little too wide. I started weighing my sawdust bags last month and it was INSANE how much extra material I was grinding into dust because I kept over-sizing my cuts by a quarter inch. That's pure profit floating around your shop floor. If you're nervous about a cut wasting wood, you're actually wasting wood by being too cautious with your measurements. Track the sawdust volume and you'll see exactly where you need to tighten up your layout game.
