Clamped a hollow core door to the workbench, it snapped like a cracker in Tulsa

Was trimming out a closet at a rental in Tulsa, put too much pressure on a hollow core slab with my pipe clamps and the whole face peeled off like a banana, so I had to stuff the void with foam and tell the homeowner it was a factory defect, anyone else ever turn a simple door install into an accidental demo job?

The foam cover-up is genius, I gotta give you that. But man, hollow core doors are basically cardboard with a skin of veneer, I'm surprised it held up as long as it did. You put one pipe clamp on those things and they fold like a wet taco. Good on you for making it look like a factory deal, though, I bet the homeowner never even peeked inside. Did the foam actually hold the face flat, or is there a weird bump you gotta pray they don't touch?

Wet taco" is the most accurate description of hollow core doors I've ever heard, and now I'm craving tacos which is a totally separate problem. That reminds me of the time I patched a hole in a door with ramen noodles and super glue, worked like a charm until the homeowner's dog sneezed on it and the whole thing crumbled into soup. Anyway, yeah the foam held it flat, but there's a soft spot the size of a cantaloupe that feels like pressing on a marshmallow, so I just told them it's "sound dampening insulation" and nobody questions it.
