Tried negotiating my salary based on a glassdoor estimate and it blew up in my face

I went into a job interview last month with glassdoor numbers for a similar role at a different company. I brought up $75k as my target and the hiring manager laughed and said their range topped out at $62k. I looked desperate and pissed off at the same time. Learned the hard way to ask what THEIR budget is first before throwing out numbers. Has anyone else had a salary talk go completely sideways like that?

Had a buddy quote $90k based on Glassdoor and the recruiter flat-out hung up.
