Thought networking was fake till a random guy in Austin got me a job offer

I used to think all those networking events were just people swapping business cards and nothing else... but last year I was grabbing coffee near my old office in Austin and started talking to this guy in line. He worked at a small tech company and we just chatted about our projects for like 10 minutes. Three weeks later he messaged me on LinkedIn about an opening and I ended up getting an interview that turned into a real offer. Has anyone else had a random encounter actually lead to something solid?

Knew a guy who got a job because his dog played with the CEO's dog at a park.

Build on that and say it's not even that uncommon. I've seen people land whole contracts just from being in the right place at the right time with the right small talk. It's like half of networking is just being around when someone's in a good mood and needs something done. You can have the best resume in the world but if you're not running into the right people, it doesn't mean much. That dog park thing is basically a modern day version of the old boys club, just with more slobber.
