PSA: keeping a running log of what I actually do all day beat updating my resume
I got passed over for a team lead role in March and could not figure out why, so I hired a resume writer for $150 out of pure frustration. She asked what I did day to day and I gave her the same vague stuff I always put on applications: worked with teams, helped with projects. Then she had me keep a simple log for two weeks, just one line per task, and it turned out I was the person who onboarded three new hires and cut our ticket backlog from 90 to 22. The resume I wrote from memory never mentioned any of it. Now I keep the log going and review it before any interview. Anyone else find out they were underselling themselves just by writing stuff down?
