Networking at a local career fair in Austin paid off in a weird way

I stopped by the Austin Community College career fair last Friday, just to see what was out there, and ended up chatting with a recruiter who remembered my portfolio from a random LinkedIn comment I made 6 months ago. She gave me a direct contact for an opening I didn't even see posted yet. Has anyone else had a random conversation at an event lead somewhere unexpected?
