My van's transmission gave out on the way to a big job last Tuesday

I was heading to a 900 square foot LVP install in Oak Park when the whole thing just stopped shifting. Coasted into a parking lot and spent two hours on the phone finding a tow and a rental. Cost me $280 for the tow and I lost the whole day of work. Has anyone else had a vehicle failure cost them a solid chunk of income like that?

Used to think I was being too careful keeping a backup vehicle around, but a breakdown like that is a REAL wake up call. Lost a whole Saturday of prime weekend work last summer when my truck's fuel pump died and it took three days to get parts. Now I keep a beater with a hitch on it just for situations exactly like this.

My backup's a riding mower with a trailer.

The mower's probably better on gas too for those quick runs.
