Meltdown at the morning standup, my fix backfired hard
I was running a project update in our office near Austin last Tuesday, and I blanked on a key deadline. My boss asked why the client deliverable was late, and instead of just owning it, I blamed the QA team for not flagging issues sooner. That blew up right there, the QA lead called me out in front of everyone and listed three emails I never replied to. I doubled down and said my inbox was flooded, which was true but irrelevant, and it just made me look defensive. Has anyone else tried to deflect blame in a meeting and watched it turn everyone against you? What did you actually do to repair those work relationships after?
