Had to pick between a safe job and a risky startup offer

Got a full-time offer from my old company in Phoenix and a contract role at a new tech startup. Took the startup gig for more money, but they folded after 8 months. Anyone else get burned chasing a bigger paycheck?

Ugh that's brutal. Honestly it's such a gamble with startups. The extra cash is tempting but you're right, the security just isn't there. Tbh I've seen this happen to a few friends. It makes you second guess every choice after that. Really hope you land something solid soon.

Yeah but is it really that big of a gamble, lauras83? Most startups don't just fold overnight. Usually there are signs, like missed targets or weird budget cuts, way before the layoffs. If you're paying attention, you can start looking before you're totally out in the cold.
