Found out the average job posting gets 250 resumes and I want to know who actually reads them
I was messing around on LinkedIn last week and saw a stat from a recruiting firm that said the average corporate job opening pulls in around 250 applications, and about 4 to 6 people get called for a first interview. I've been applying to jobs in Denver for 5 months now and thought I was just unlucky. Turns out I'm one of hundreds doing the same thing into a black hole. So if 250 people apply and only a handful get called, what's actually getting people through, a referral or just dumb luck? Would love to hear from anyone who got hired recently without knowing somebody on the inside.
Applied to probably 180 jobs myself so I'm basically a professional resume sender at this point. From what I've seen, referrals skip the line and the rest of us just hope a real person glances at our stuff before the software tosses it. Got one interview last month without knowing anybody, so it does happen, just way less often than it should.
