Changed my mind about job hopping after my old boss called me back
I used to think staying at one company was the safe move, but after getting laid off from a marketing job in Chicago last month, I called my old manager from 2019 and she hired me back at $12k more. So now I'm wondering if anyone else has gone back to a company they left and regretted it, or was it the best move?
The part about calling your old manager from 2019 is what stands out to me. A lot of people burn that bridge on the way out or just let the number go stale, and that costs them later. Going back at $12k more also says something, because usually when you boomerang you either come back at the same pay or you come back higher only if they really wanted you. The regret stories I hear are mostly from people who went back to the SAME role and the SAME problems, not people who came back with more money and a clearer idea of what they were walking into.
